I slept alone in the wilderness for the first time on a patch of dirt next to a lake called Chewing Gum. What began as a sincere longing twisted into an attempt to prove something. Deep blue water rippled silently in a bowl of white granite and my loneliness rose with the moon. It was beautiful and terrifying and I wanted to leave as soon as I arrived.
