Statement

My work consists of expressive, semi-surreal figurative paintings, and ceramic heads formed from clay and painted with glaze — the common thread being a personal enchantment and horror with living during a time when human activity has caused extraordinary changes to our planet.

Underlying all themes in my work is an appreciation of beauty. I often draw aesthetic inspiration from eras and movements such as Romanticism, the Victorian era, and Rococo. A futuristic lens has also begun to permeate my practice, inspired by science fiction and post-apocalyptic literature and films. The solarpunk movement further influences my exploration of a symbiotic relationship between humanity and Earth.

I also explore feminine rage, darkness, and grief, specifically informed by living with a hormone-related mood disorder. I aim for viewers to be able to see a bit of themselves — perhaps the shadowy aspects they’ve been resisting — in the work or at least take a moment to wonder, which is why faces and eyes are often obscured.
