The Laser Beam Girls, 2024

This series began during a time of conflict when I sought a sense of strength and stability—an almost rigid sense of self. As it typically happens, I didn't have a plan for how this series would unfold (or if it would be a “series” at all). These three “laser beam girls” were a way of processing emotions in real-time. Although largely based on personal experience and emotion, I rarely consider my work self-portraiture. In hindsight, it felt like I was creating the archetype of the next version of myself that I needed to become as this character moved from rigidity and righteous anger, through curiosity and opening, to an eventual softening and surrender.
